Mehac Projects
 

 

Mehac Foundation's projects involve mainly Community Mental Health projects and programmes in strengthening the psycho-social component in delivery of palliative care. 

Community Mental Health Projects

The current Community Mental Health projects are in the southern Kerala districts of Eranakulam and Alappuzha, the central Kerala District of Palakkad and the north Kerala District of Kannur The foundation has initiated moves to advance the Mehac model to Kerala's capital of Thiruvanthapuram too in the near future. Mehac Foundation's projects in Ernakulam are located at the Tata Charitable Trust Hospital in Chottanikkara and the Public Health Centre in Kanjoor Panchayat. The village Panchayat and National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) are partners in these projects. There are three projects in Alappuzha. One clinic is located at Kalavoor Sneha Bhawan and associate organisations and another at Muhamma, Panchayath building. The Third is a home care programme across the coastal areas of Arthungal, Azheekkal and Mararikkulam. A clinic catering essentially to tribal patients is operational at Attapadi Swami Vivekananda Trust hospital. The clinic in Kannur District is at Trichambaram in Taliparamba.

 

Palliative Care programmes 

Mehac Foundation partners with the Department of Psychiatry, Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram and Pallium India, Thiruvananthapuram. Mehac teams up with Cairdeas, International Palliative Care trust, Scotland in palliative care programmes in several regions. These programmes are located in different Indian States such as Mizoram, Ludhiana in Punjab, Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh and Thalassery in Kerala.

 

Pilot Project

Mehac Foundation's pilot project, which was carried out since December 2008 covered the north Kerala districts of Malappuram and Wayanad. Services were provided in 14 clinics, set up essentially by groups such as the Neighbourhood Network in Palliative Care (NNPC) , Amrita hospital and Vivekananda hospital. The clinics in the pilot project are now being looked after by an organisation undertaken by the former Clinical Director of Mehac Foundation.Our projects emphasise on transparency in functioning in all spheres.
